It takes place in a small town in Alabama during the 1930s, a time when people were often judged unfairly because of their race or social status.

The story is told through the eyes of a young girl named Scout Finch. She lives with her brother, Jem and their father, Atticus, who is a wise and caring lawyer.

Atticus teaches Scout and Jem to treat everyone with respect, no matter their background. He believes in justice and doing what is right, even when it’s difficult.

A big part of the story is about a trial where Atticus defends a Black man named Tom Robinson.

Tom is falsely accused of hurting a white woman. Even though it’s clear Tom is innocent, many people in the town are against him because of their prejudice.

Atticus works hard to show the truth but the jury still finds Tom guilty. This shows how unfair the world can be.

At the same time, Scout and Jem learn about a mysterious neighbor named Boo Radley. People in town think Boo is strange and dangerous, but Scout and Jem discover he is kind and caring.

Boo saves them from danger, teaching them not to judge someone without knowing their story.
